Mentor Day with Polka Dot Umbrella Photography
This family. This day. It was everything I hoped for and more.
I have always adored the work of Danielle with Polka Dot Umbrella Photography. The way each and every one of her images that she shares makes you feel something is such a talent and one that I knew I wanted to learn from one day. So finally, and after six years of priding myself on being mostly self-taught an opportunity came up to mentor with Danielle and I jumped at it. I had wanted to work with her for years and it was finally happening and I was giddy with excitement! So in early June, I made the three hour drive to Neenah, Wi and spent the day with Danielle and two wonderful families. We chatted like old friends, talked about all things photography and then shot two live shoots together! First was a studio newborn in her charming downtown Neenah studio. Watching her work with a beautiful family of 5 which included 3 little girls was pure magic!! We took a break for a super yummy lunch then ended the evening with a dreamy sunset shoot at the most magical location one could think of. Even weeks later I am still processing all I learned from this day. Danielle was kind, patient and a completely open book with her talent. I was so hesitant to mentoring with someone for so many reasons but I am so, so glad I did this and completely know the value in continuing to further my skills within this industry to be the best photographer I can be to my clients but also to remain true to my art and my heart. I absolutely love what I do and with each and every session learn a tiny bit more and truly feel blessed to have a career I am so passionate about. Danielle, I cannot thank you enough for everything on this day and as the days continue! You are a gem in this industry and one I am lucky to call a friend. I am thankful for this day and each and every lesson learned along the way!
